These terms cover your use of GoldenHourly (goldenhourly.com). By using the site you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
The service
GoldenHourly is free and needs no account. It calculates golden hour, blue hour, sunrise, sunset and sun directions for places and dates you choose. We may change, pause or stop any part of it at any time.
How far to rely on the times
The times are calculated estimates, not observations or forecasts. They assume a clear, flat horizon at the coordinates shown. Mountains, buildings, trees, weather, haze and atmospheric conditions can all change when the light actually arrives and how it looks, often by several minutes. Approximate locations from your IP address can be many kilometres off; choose the exact place for anything that matters.
Use the times for planning, and check conditions on the day. Don't rely on GoldenHourly for navigation, safety or any decision where an error could cause harm, such as being outdoors in the dark or in dangerous terrain.
No warranty
The site is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, availability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, GoldenHourly and the people who run it aren't liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for lost profits, bookings or opportunities (a missed shoot or event, for example), arising from your use of the site or reliance on its information. Because the site is free, our total liability for all claims relating to it is limited to US $50 in total. None of this limits liability that the law doesn't allow to be limited, such as for fraud or intentional misconduct. Some places don't allow some of these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
Fair use
Please don't:
- interfere with the site, probe it for vulnerabilities without permission, or try to overload it;
- scrape or download it in bulk with automated tools in a way that burdens the service;
- use its links or pages to mislead people, for example by putting false or harmful text in a shared link's place name.
Sharing links, screenshots and your planned times with others is welcome.
Content and data
The site's design, text and code belong to GoldenHourly. Place data comes from GeoNames under CC BY 4.0, and map data from OpenStreetMap contributors under the Open Database License, served by OpenFreeMap. Their licences apply to their data; see the About page for full credits.
Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what the site does with information about you.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed; using the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
